Hosting 1,000 Horses

Every two years, MESSE ESSEN is transformed into the world’s largest equestrian venue. During EQUITANA, around 1,000 horses move onto the exhibition grounds, all of which need to be cared for, exercised and looked after. Animal welfare is our highest priority and forms the basis for the design and construction of the temporary stables located in selected exhibition halls as well as on outdoor parking and logistics areas.

Once our neighing guests have settled in, the next logistical challenge begins: managing and disposing of several tonnes of horse manure.

Priority for Four Hooves: Dedicated Horse Traffic Lights

To provide horses and riders with a safe and stress-free route between the stabling areas and the exhibition halls, the MESSE ESSEN logistics team installs a dedicated traffic light system for horses during EQUITANA. The lights turn green whenever horses and riders need to cross.
