You can reserve a wheelchair in advance for events organized by MESSE ESSEN GmbH.

The wheelchairs are self-propelled and will be available at the information desks upon your arrival. Our hostesses will be happy to assist you there. A deposit of 50 euros or, alternatively, a valid driver’s license or ID card is required to rent a wheelchair.

Please note

Please notify us of your need well in advance, as only a limited number of wheelchairs are available. This service does not apply to events held in the Grugahalle.

More Tips, Information, and Resources

Admission and Accompanying Person

At select events organized by MESSE ESSEN, people with a severe disability ID card are eligible for reduced-price admission. You can find more information on the respective event website.

If you have a severe disability ID card marked with the letter “B” one accompanying person receives free admission when presenting your admission ticket.

Accessible Parking

Special parking spaces are available for people with disabilities in the immediate vicinity of the East, South, and West entrances. Please have your parking permit or disability ID card ready—our parking attendants will be happy to direct you to a suitable parking space.

People with a disability rating of at least 80% and the aG or G designations may park for free. To do so, present your severe disability ID card at one of the information booths. There, you will either receive a refund for your parking ticket or—if the barrier is open—an exit ticket.

The special parking spaces are located at the East Entrance in Parking Lot P1, as well as at the South and West Entrances in the P6 A underground garage and in Parking Garage P5.

Please note that different entrances may be open depending on the event. You can find information about this on the respective event website.

MESSE ESSEN is also accessible by public transportation: Subway Line 11 runs directly from Essen Central Station to the convention center. We particularly recommend the West Entrance, which is located just about 160 meters from the subway stop and is accessible via a ramp. An elevator is also available at the East Entrance.

Accessibility at the Exhibition

MESSE ESSEN is designed to ensure an accessible visit. The East, South, and West entrances are accessible at ground level. Ticket sales and coat check areas are located on the ground floor; all other halls can be easily reached by elevator. For more information, please refer to the site map.

Accessible restroom facilities are available near the foyers and are equipped with the EURO-WC locking system. If you do not have a EURO-WC key, you can obtain one at the information desks upon presentation of a valid ID and a deposit. Alternatively, restroom attendants will be happy to open the facilities for you on site.

The EURO-WC key can also be purchased permanently through the Club for People with Disabilities and Their Friends (CBF) and provides access to numerous accessible restroom facilities throughout Europe.
